چکیده

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established treatment for Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders. The success of DBS is highly dependent on electrode location, electrical parameter settings and the surgical procedure. In this paper an overview of the current status of optical measurements for intracerebral guidance performed during DBS implantation is presented. Laser Doppler perfusion monitoring and/or reflection spectroscopy measurements have been done in relation to more than 70 DBS lead implantations towards targets in the deep brain structures. The techniques have also been compared with impedance monitoring, and simulation of the measurement depth has been done with Monte Carlo technique. These studies show that grey-white matter boundaries can be determined with a resolution higher than for both impedance measurements and magnetic reso-

Early outcome of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) in advanced parkinson disease in first trial of Iranian patients

Abstract   Background: To improve the debilitating features of Parkinson disease (PD) different   medical and surgical approaches are available. Subthalamic nucleus deep brain   stimulation (STN-DBS) was appeared to be a promising method during last two   decades. This study aimed to evaluate early motor outcomes of this procedure in first   trial of Iranian patients .   Methods: Thirty-seven...

Deep brain stimulation of globuspallidusinternus for DYT1 positive primary generalized dystonia

Background : Deep brain stimulation (DBS) of the globuspallidusinternus (GPi) is recommended as a promising technique for the management of the primary generalized dystonia (PGD) with DYT1 gene mutation. We present the first report of DBS results in Iranian patients with DYT1 positive PGD.   Methods : Nine patients who suffered from severely disabling DYT1 positive PGD consecutively were recr...

The effect of bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the acoustic and prosodic features in patients with Parkinson’s disease: A study protocol for the first trial on Iranian patients

Background: The effect of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) on the voice features in Parkinson’s disease (PD) is controversial. No study has evaluated the voice features of PD underwent STN-DBS by the acoustic, perceptual, and patient-based assessments comprehensively. Furthermore, there is no study to investigate prosodic features before and after DBS in PD. The curren...

Intracerebral microvascular measurements during deep brain stimulation implantation using laser Doppler perfusion monitoring.

The aim of the study was to investigate if laser Doppler perfusion monitoring (LDPM) can be used in order to differentiate between gray and white matter and to what extent microvascular perfusion can be recorded in the deep brain structures during stereotactic neurosurgery. An optical probe constructed to fit in the Leksell Stereotactic System was used for measurements along the trajectory and ...
